Apple Price Hikes Hit India Harder Than Other Markets

IT & Telecom

Apple has announced a fresh round of global price increases across several product categories, with customers in India facing some of the steepest hikes compared to other regions.

The price adjustments affect Apple’s Mac lineup, as well as iPads, Apple TV devices and HomePod speakers. The move comes as the company seeks to offset rising costs linked to memory and storage components, while also revising its pricing structure in certain international markets.

India has been among the hardest-hit countries, with price increases significantly exceeding those seen in the United States. While many products in the US have reportedly seen price rises in the high-teen percentage range, several devices in India have witnessed increases exceeding 30%, with some products climbing by more than 50%.

Among the Mac models, the Mac mini recorded one of the largest jumps. The base 256GB variant is now priced at INR 94,900, compared with INR 59,900 previously, representing an increase of more than 58%. The iMac, Mac Studio and MacBook Pro models have also received substantial price hikes.

The increases extend beyond computers. Apple’s iPad lineup has also become considerably more expensive in India, with the standard iPad, iPad Air, iPad mini and iPad Pro all seeing increases ranging from nearly 40% to more than 43%.

Meanwhile, the Apple TV 4K experienced one of the sharpest rises, with the base model’s price increasing by around 74%. HomePod and HomePod mini speakers have also become significantly more expensive.

In addition to raising base prices, Apple has increased the cost of memory and storage upgrades for custom configurations. Customers opting for higher RAM or storage capacities will now pay more than before for these enhancements.

Industry observers have also pointed to a change in Apple’s pricing strategy for India. The company appears to have moved away from its long-standing conversion model, which closely aligned Indian pricing with US dollar rates. The revised pricing structure could result in higher costs for future Apple products even if component prices stabilise.

Apple said it is working to address the challenges behind the increases but acknowledged that the latest adjustments are unlikely to be welcomed by consumers.
