Apple’s first foldable iPhone is reportedly impressing internal testers ahead of its expected launch next month, with the device’s design, hinge and usability among the features receiving positive feedback.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, people who have internally tested the upcoming foldable iPhone, reportedly referred to as the iPhone Ultra, have been particularly impressed by its overall form factor and practical design.
Foldable iPhone praised for compact design
Early testers reportedly found that the foldable iPhone fits easily into a pocket despite featuring a large internal display.
The device’s hinge has also received positive feedback, with testers reportedly impressed by its durability. The hinge is expected to play a key role in Apple’s first foldable smartphone as the company seeks to deliver a reliable folding experience.
The inner display is another area that has reportedly impressed testers. Apple is expected to offer an iPad-like interface on the larger internal screen, providing users with more space for multitasking and other activities when the device is unfolded.
Camera viewfinder feature impresses testers
The foldable iPhone is also reportedly capable of functioning as a camera viewfinder, allowing users to use the larger display in certain photography scenarios.
However, the camera system could leave some users disappointed.
The iPhone Ultra is expected to feature a dual rear-camera setup consisting of a 48MP main camera and an ultrawide sensor. Notably, the device is not expected to include a dedicated telephoto camera.
The omission could be particularly significant considering the phone’s expected price of around $2,000.
Expected iPhone Ultra specifications
Apple’s first foldable iPhone is reportedly expected to feature a 5.5-inch cover display and a much larger 7.76-inch internal display.
The larger screen is expected to provide an iPad-like experience when the device is unfolded, potentially giving users a more tablet-oriented interface while retaining the portability of a smartphone when closed.
Apple is also rumoured to move away from Face ID on the foldable model, with Touch ID reportedly integrated into the power button.
The combination of a compact exterior, large internal display and folding mechanism would mark a major departure from Apple’s traditional iPhone design.

Apple is expected to unveil its first foldable iPhone next month as the company enters a smartphone segment already occupied by Samsung and other manufacturers.
While Apple has yet to officially confirm the device, positive feedback from early testers could build anticipation for what is expected to be one of the company’s biggest iPhone design changes in years.
The reported $2,000 price tag, however, could make the iPhone Ultra significantly more expensive than Apple’s existing flagship smartphones.
