Bangladesh Cricket Legend Mahmud Ullah Announces Retirement

Dhaka, March 12, 2025 – Bangladesh cricket has bid farewell to one of its most seasoned and respected players, as Mahmud Ullah officially announced his retirement from international cricket.

The veteran all-rounder, who played a crucial role in Bangladesh’s cricketing journey, leaves behind an illustrious career spanning 239 One Day Internationals (ODIs), during which he accumulated 5,689 runs and claimed 82 wickets for Bangladesh.

Having previously retired from Test and T20I cricket, the 39-year-old has now decided to step away from ODIs as well. His final appearance for Bangladesh came during the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, where he featured in a group-stage match against New Zealand.

“I have decided to retire from international cricket,” Mahmud Ullah announced via social media. “I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all my teammates, coaches, and, most importantly, the fans of Bangladesh cricket who have supported me throughout my journey.”

He extended his thanks to his family for their unwavering support, particularly his parents, in-laws, and brother Emdad Ullah, who has played a pivotal role in his development as a cricketer. “A special thank you to my father-in-law and, most importantly, my brother Emdad Ullah, who has been my mentor and coach since my childhood. Lastly, I am forever grateful to my wife and children, who have stood by me through thick and thin.”

Mahmud Ullah leaves the game as one of Bangladesh’s most accomplished cricketers, ranking fourth in terms of ODI appearances and runs scored, following Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, and Tamim Iqbal. His contributions have been instrumental in shaping Bangladesh cricket’s rise on the global stage.

Among his most unforgettable performances was his iconic century against England in the 2015 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, which led Bangladesh to a historic victory and secured their place in the tournament’s knockout stage. That moment remains etched in the memories of Bangladesh cricket fans as one of the nation’s greatest achievements.

As Mahmud Ullah steps away from international cricket, Bangladesh cricket acknowledges his dedication, resilience, and leadership. His departure marks the end of an era, but his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of cricketers in Bangladesh.
