Bangladesh’s Historic Test Win: 546-Run Victory

Bangladesh showcased their dominance in the international cricket arena with a resounding 546-run victory over Afghanistan in a one-off Test match held at Mirpur.

This remarkable win not only solidifies Bangladesh’s position as a competitive team but also marks their place in history as it becomes the third-largest victory by runs for a Test nation and the largest in the 21st century.

Notably, it is also the most significant win of this kind for an Asian side, highlighting their growing prowess in the Test format.

From the very beginning, Bangladesh displayed flawless performance after being asked to bat first by Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi. Najmul Hossain Shanto’s superb century of 146 runs set the tone for their innings, leading the Tigers to a total of 382 runs in the first innings.

In response, Afghanistan struggled and managed to score a mere 146 runs, with Afsar Zazai contributing the highest individual score of 36.

The relentless bowling attack from Bangladesh’s pacers, Ebadot Hossain (4/47) and Shoriful Islam (2/28), played a pivotal role in dismantling Afghanistan’s top-order.

In the second innings, Bangladesh’s aggressive batting further extended their advantage with a lead of 236 runs.

Shanto (124), Mominul Haque (121 not out), Zakir Hasan (71), and Litton Das (66 not out) showcased their batting prowess as they declared at 425/4 in just 80 overs. This set an imposing target of 662 runs for their opponents.

Afghanistan’s struggle continued in their second innings, as they could only manage a paltry 115 runs before being bowled out.

Taskin Ahmed (4/37) and Shoriful Islam (3/28) once again spearheaded Bangladesh’s bowling attack, leaving Afghanistan helpless and securing a comprehensive victory.
