May 7, 2026 — Singer Bonnie Tyler has undergone emergency intestinal surgery after suddenly falling ill while in Portugal, according to a statement released by her spokesperson.
The 74-year-old “Holding Out for a Hero” singer was admitted to a hospital in Faro, where she owns a home, for urgent treatment.
“We are very sorry to announce that Bonnie has been admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, for emergency intestinal surgery,” her spokesman said in a statement.
“The surgery went well and she is now recuperating. We know that all of her family, friends and fans will be concerned about this news and will be wishing her well for a full and swift recovery.”
Tyler, known for hit songs including Holding Out for a Hero and Total Eclipse of the Heart, divides her time between Portugal’s Algarve region and South Wales.
The singer has frequently spoken about her affection for Portugal, where she spent extended periods while working on music projects.
Despite the recent health scare, Tyler has remained active professionally in recent years and previously discussed ongoing health issues related to her knees.
In 2023, she underwent knee surgery linked to injuries from an earlier skiing accident.
Fans and fellow musicians have begun sending messages of support on social media, wishing the veteran singer a speedy recovery.
