CAIE

Students appearing for the Cambridge International AS Level Mathematics exam have been hit with a major update after Cambridge confirmed that the AS Mathematics Paper 9709/12, conducted on April 29, 2026, was leaked before the examination.

Due to the widespread circulation of the paper, Cambridge has officially cancelled the exam for affected regions and announced a replacement test scheduled for June 9, 2026.

The decision impacts candidates across administrative zones 3 and 4, including regions in Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Pakistan, South Asia, and parts of Southeast Asia.

According to Cambridge, the leaked material violated strict exam security regulations, making it impossible to use the original paper for fair assessment and final grading.

Why Cambridge Cancelled the Exam

Cambridge stated that the premature sharing of the Mathematics question paper compromised the integrity of the examination process.

Officials explained that although many online leak claims are often fake or linked to scams targeting students, this particular case involved genuine unauthorized distribution of confidential exam content.

The examination board emphasized that protecting fairness for all students remains its top priority. Senior assessment experts concluded that conducting a fresh examination is the only way to ensure reliable and trusted results for universities, colleges, and other institutions worldwide.

New Exam Date Confirmed

Cambridge has now scheduled a replacement examination for AS Mathematics Paper 9709/12 on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. The retake will be conducted as part of the official June exam series timetable.

Importantly, students and schools will not face any additional charges for the replacement paper. Cambridge also confirmed that the AS & A Level results release date of August 11, 2026, will remain unchanged despite the disruption.

Schools are expected to receive detailed instructions by May 15 regarding exam procedures, paper distribution, withdrawals, and options for future exam entries.

Cambridge Responds to Security Concerns

The incident has triggered an active investigation involving law enforcement agencies and Cambridge compliance teams. Authorities are working to identify individuals responsible for leaking the confidential paper.

Cambridge warned that strict action will be taken against anyone involved in sharing or misusing exam materials. Penalties may include permanent disqualification from Cambridge qualifications and future examination activities.

The board also highlighted that exam paper leaks have become a growing challenge globally, affecting multiple examination systems.

Officials said security protocols are continuously being upgraded to combat evolving malpractice methods and protect the credibility of international qualifications.

Students Urged to Stay Focused

Cambridge acknowledged the stress and disappointment caused to students, parents, and schools.

However, the board encouraged candidates to remain focused on their preparation for the replacement exam, assuring them that the revised assessment process is designed to protect honest students and maintain fairness across all affected regions.
