Chance of Thundershower in Islamabad on August 24: Met Office

Islamabad, August 23, 2023 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted the likelihood of a thundershower in Islamabad on Thursday, August 24, 2023.

In their daily weather report, the Met office has indicated that rain accompanied by wind and thundershowers is expected in various regions, including the Pothohar region, Islamabad, upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, and Kashmir.

There is also a possibility of heavy rainfall occurring at isolated locations within the Pothohar region, Islamabad, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and upper Punjab during this period. Meanwhile, hot and humid weather conditions are anticipated in other parts of the country.

According to the PMD, the prevailing synoptic situation involves the penetration of monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal into the upper regions of the country. Additionally, a westerly wave has started affecting the upper and central parts of Pakistan.

Weather Highlights from the Past 24 Hours:

Over the past 24 hours, most parts of the country experienced hot and very humid weather conditions. However, some areas received rainfall. The recorded rainfall (in mm) during this period includes:

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Dir (Lower) – 22 mm

Malam Jabba – 07 mm

Mir Khani – 04 mm

Gilgit-Baltistan: Astore and Chilas – 02 mm

Furthermore, the highest recorded maximum temperatures (°C) for the day were as follows:

Bannu – 43°C

Chilas and Bhakkar – 42°C

As the weather continues to change with the influence of monsoon currents and the westerly wave, residents of Islamabad and the mentioned regions are advised to stay updated on the weather forecasts and take necessary precautions as required.
