New mid-size truck with 100km EV range targets BYD Shark and global rivals
Chery has officially released the first images of its upcoming Stockman mid-size pickup truck, marking a major step in the brand’s global expansion strategy.
Built on a rugged ladder-frame chassis, the new model combines traditional diesel strength with advanced plug-in hybrid technology.
According to reports, international pre-sales and export rollout are planned for the final quarter of 2026. The pickup is positioned to compete directly in the fast-growing global mid-size truck segment, where demand for electrified utility vehicles is increasing rapidly.
Under the hood, the Chery Stockman features a sophisticated series-parallel plug-in hybrid system powered by a 2.5-litre twin-turbo diesel engine. The engine delivers 210 kW (282 hp) and 650 Nm of torque, while achieving an impressive thermal efficiency of 47 percent.
The setup is paired with a rear-mounted battery pack that enables up to 100 km of pure electric driving range. Enhancing its off-road capability, the model includes a low-range transfer case and three locking differentials, offering strong traction across challenging terrains. It also supports a 3,500 kg towing capacity and a 1,000 kg payload.
In terms of design, the Stockman measures 5,450 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,925 mm in height. Its exterior features a bold front grille with circular LED headlamps and muscular fender flares, giving it a rugged yet modern appearance.
The cabin is built on Chery’s Kaitan Architecture and includes premium features such as dual digital screens, a leather steering wheel, an electronic gear selector, a panoramic sunroof, heated seats, and automatic climate control, improving both comfort and usability.
Chery’s global strategy positions the Stockman against competitors such as the Great Wall Motor Cannon lineup and emerging models like the BYD Shark pickup.
With Chinese pickup exports already accounting for more than half of global segment output, the Stockman is expected to play a key role in strengthening Chery’s overseas presence.
The automaker’s domestic performance also remains strong, with 31,738 units sold in May 2026, reflecting steady month-on-month growth and rising demand for electrified utility vehicles.
