Google Chrome is rolling out a new feature to help users manage unwanted site notifications more easily.
If you’ve ever found yourself accidentally agreeing to notifications from random websites, you’re likely familiar with the frustration of a cluttered notification tray. Fortunately, Google Chrome has developed a solution: instant unsubscribe, accessible directly within the notification itself.
Initially launching on Google Pixel devices, this feature allows users to quickly unsubscribe from notifications without needing to navigate through complex settings.
By tapping the “Unsubscribe” option in the notification, users can effortlessly block any further alerts from the website in question. While this feature is debuting on Pixels, Google promises it will be available on more Android devices soon.
This user-friendly feature aims to declutter notifications, making it easier to manage unwanted messages. If users accidentally unsubscribe from a site they didn’t mean to, they can easily undo their action, ensuring flexibility and control.
Beyond just notifications, Chrome is also introducing an enhanced “Safety Check” feature, which will run automatically in the background. This feature aims to protect users by revoking notification permissions from websites flagged by Google Safe Browsing as deceptive or misleading.
The automated process identifies sites that trick users into granting permissions and ensures that their notification access is promptly revoked.
The improved Safety Check system will notify users of the actions it takes, such as removing permissions from websites that are no longer visited or flagging notifications that may be spammy or malicious. Additionally, it will remind users of security issues that require immediate attention.
Another security enhancement includes one-time permissions for accessing sensitive data such as your camera or microphone. Once the user exits the site, the permissions are automatically revoked, ensuring that websites can no longer access those features unless explicitly granted again.
With these updates, Chrome continues to prioritize user control, privacy, and security.
