Cold and Dry Weather Forecast Across Pakistan for December 2: PMD Issues Advisory

Islamabad, December 1, 2023 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather forecast predicting cold and dry weather across most parts of the country on Saturday, December 2, 2023.

The advisory also highlights the likelihood of smog/fog in upper Sindh, plain areas of Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the morning hours.

According to the PMD, the prevailing synoptic situation indicates that continental air is influencing most regions of the country, with a westerly wave still impacting the northern parts.

The weather forecast for Friday, December 1, 2023, anticipates cold and dry conditions in most parts of Pakistan. However, isolated places in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and adjoining hilly areas are expected to experience rain, wind, and thunderstorms, with snowfall over the hills. Additionally, smog/fog is likely in upper Sindh, the plain areas of Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Reviewing the weather conditions over the past 24 hours, the PMD reported instances of rain-thunderstorm and snowfall over the mountains in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. The rest of the country experienced cold and dry weather during this period.

Rainfall recorded in millimeters includes Muzaffarabad (City 28 & Airport 22), Garhi Dupatta 06 (Kashmir); Balakot 16, Kalam 11, Dir (Upper & Lower 10), Saidu Sharif 11, Malam Jabba 07, Kakul, Pattan 03, Chitral, Drosh 01 (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa); and Bagrote, Chilas, Gilgit, and Hunza 01 (Gilgit-Baltistan).

The lowest minimum temperatures recorded in degrees Celsius were Leh -06, Kalam, and Kalat -02.

As the winter season progresses, the PMD advises residents to take necessary precautions to cope with the cold weather, especially in areas where fog/smog is anticipated during the morning hours. Motorists are advised to exercise caution while driving in reduced visibility conditions.
