Cold Weather to Grip Pakistan on November 30, 2024

Islamabad, November 29, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a spell of cold and dry weather across most parts of the country on Saturday, November 30, 2024. However, upper regions and mountainous areas are likely to experience rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall.

According to the PMD’s weather outlook, cloudy conditions with rain and wind-thunderstorms (alongside snowfall in hilly areas) are expected in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northern and northeastern Balochistan, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Meanwhile, other parts of the country will remain dry and cold. Smog and fog patches are likely to persist during morning and night hours in isolated plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh.

The PMD attributed these conditions to a westerly wave affecting the western and upper regions of Pakistan. This weather system has already brought rain and snow to various areas over the past 24 hours, marking the onset of winter in these regions.

Weather Highlights for Friday, November 29, 2024:

Cloudy weather prevailed, with rain and thunderstorms reported in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Light rain and thunderstorms also occurred in isolated areas of Islamabad, Murree, Galliyat, and the Pothohar region. In contrast, most of the country remained cold and dry, with smoggy and foggy conditions affecting parts of Punjab and upper Sindh.

Lowest Recorded Temperatures (°C):

Looking ahead, the PMD advises residents in affected areas to prepare for chilly conditions, especially in northern and hilly regions where snowfall is expected. Travelers in fog-prone areas, particularly in Punjab and Sindh, are urged to exercise caution due to reduced visibility.

With winter settling in, these weather conditions highlight the seasonal shift, signaling colder days ahead for much of the country.
