Islamabad, January 15, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning about the impending onset of dense fog, expected to envelop most parts of upper Sindh on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.
In an advisory, the PMD highlighted the likelihood of persistent dense fog in the plain areas of Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh over the next two days, urging citizens to exercise caution.
The advisory also indicated that day temperatures are anticipated to remain below normal in many parts of Punjab due to the prevalence of dense fog. The PMD attributed the synoptic situation to continental air prevailing over a majority of the country.
On Tuesday, January 16, 2024, the weather is projected to be primarily cold and dry in most plain areas of the country, with particularly chilly conditions in the northern regions. However, partly cloudy weather with the possibility of rain (and snowfall over mountains) is forecasted at isolated locations in Gilgit-Baltistan. Dense fog and smog are expected to persist in the plain areas of Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh. Frost is also likely to form at a few locations in the Pothohar region during the morning.
For Monday, January 15, 2024, the weather is anticipated to be cold and dry in most plain areas of the country, with very cold and partly cloudy conditions in the northern parts. The persistence of dense fog and smog is expected in plain areas of Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh.
Over the past 24 hours, the recorded weather has been characterized by cold and dry conditions prevailing over most parts of the country, with particularly frigid weather in the northern regions. Dense fog and smog persisted in the plain areas of Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh.
Notably, the lowest minimum temperatures recorded today include Leh at -08°C, Skardu at -06°C, Kalam, Gilgit, and Gupis at -05°C, Srinagar at -04°C, and Kalat, Hunza, Astore, and Rawalakot at -03°C.
