Marc Guehi and Declan Rice face fitness concerns as Thomas Tuchel deals with mounting squad issues before crucial clash with Norway.

England are facing significant selection concerns ahead of their highly anticipated World Cup quarterfinal against Norway, as injuries and illness continue to trouble manager Thomas Tuchel’s squad.

The Three Lions are preparing for Saturday’s knockout encounter with uncertainty surrounding the availability of central defender Marc Guehi and midfielder Declan Rice. Both players have emerged as doubts following England’s dramatic 3-2 victory over Mexico in the Round of 16.

Guehi sustained a minor hamstring issue during the win over Mexico at Mexico City Stadium and is currently being monitored by the medical staff. His fitness remains uncertain, raising questions over England’s defensive setup for the crucial clash against a Norway side led by prolific striker Erling Haaland.

Meanwhile, Rice has missed two consecutive training sessions after suffering from a stomach illness. The influential midfielder was absent from workouts on Wednesday and Thursday, creating additional concerns for Tuchel as England aim to secure a place in the World Cup semifinals.

England’s injury troubles extend beyond Guehi and Rice. Defender Jarell Quansah is unavailable after receiving a two-match suspension following his red card against Mexico.

In another setback, experienced midfielder Jordan Henderson has been ruled out for the remainder of the tournament after fracturing his wrist in an unfortunate fall over an advertising board while celebrating England’s last-16 victory.

Despite the setbacks, there is some encouraging news for England supporters. Full-back Reece James participated in most of Thursday’s training session after recovering from a hamstring problem.

If he successfully completes Friday’s workout, he could be available for selection against Norway and provide Tuchel with an important boost.

Should Guehi fail to recover in time, England may be forced to reshuffle their defense. John Stones or Dan Burn are potential candidates to step into central defense, while Ezri Konsa could move to right-back if required.

Tuchel will be particularly focused on finding the right defensive balance to contain Haaland, who has already scored seven goals in the tournament.

England’s ability to overcome their injury concerns could prove decisive in determining whether they advance to the World Cup semifinals.
