Islamabad, June 14, 2024 – The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) announced on Friday an extension for the deadline to file sales tax and federal excise returns.

Taxpayers now have until June 24, 2024, to complete their submissions.

The FBR stated that the extension was granted in consideration of the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha holidays. The decision aims to provide taxpayers with ample time to meet their obligations without the added pressure of holiday preparations and observances.

In an official communication, the FBR informed chief commissioners across various offices, including the Large Taxpayers Offices (LTOs), Medium Taxpayers Office (MTO), Corporate Tax Offices (CTOs), and Regional Tax Offices (RTOs). This extension applies specifically to the tax period of May 2024.

The FBR’s announcement includes two key changes:

1. The payment deadline for sales tax and federal excise duty, originally due on June 15, 2024, is now extended to June 20, 2024.

2. The submission deadline for sales tax and federal excise returns, initially set for June 18, 2024, is now extended to June 24, 2024.

This extension is expected to ease the burden on taxpayers who may have found it challenging to comply with the original deadlines due to the Eid-ul-Adha holidays. By moving the deadlines, the FBR aims to ensure that all taxpayers have sufficient time to accurately complete their filings.

The FBR encourages all taxpayers to take advantage of this extension and ensure their returns are submitted by the new deadline. The agency remains committed to facilitating compliance and supporting taxpayers through timely and considerate measures.

This move is part of the FBR’s broader efforts to improve tax administration and taxpayer services, ensuring that tax obligations can be met with convenience and efficiency. Taxpayers are advised to plan accordingly and utilize the additional time to fulfill their tax responsibilities.
