FBR officers to be deputed at FAFT secretariat

FBR officers to be deputed at FAFT secretariat

Officers from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) will be posted at the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Secretariat on a deputation basis.

This development was outlined in an office order issued by the Establishment Division, emphasizing the need for the services of qualified officers in key roles within the FATF Secretariat.

The office order specified that the FATF Secretariat is seeking the expertise of officers suitable for posting as Director (BS-19) and Deputy Director (BS-18) on a deputation basis. This step is aligned with the commitment to enhance Pakistan’s engagement and cooperation with international bodies, especially those focused on financial regulation and counter-terrorism financing efforts.

The FBR Chairman has been formally requested to provide nominations for officers suitable for these positions. The call for nominations extends to interested officers holding ranks of BS-18 and BS-19 within the FBR. The Establishment Division has urged the FBR Chairman to submit the nominations along with the officers’ comprehensive curriculum vitae (CVs) for further consideration.

In response to this directive, the FBR has circulated an order outlining the process for interested officers to express their willingness to serve on deputation at the FATF Secretariat. Officers holding ranks of BS-18 and BS-19 were instructed to submit their CVs by December 21, 2020, showcasing their professional backgrounds, experiences, and qualifications for the roles at the international financial watchdog.

This move signifies Pakistan’s commitment to actively participating in global initiatives for financial transparency, combating money laundering, and countering the financing of terrorism. The FATF, as a global standard-setter in these areas, plays a crucial role in shaping policies and promoting international cooperation to combat financial crimes.

The decision to post FBR officers at the FATF Secretariat on deputation underscores the recognition of the importance of expertise and experience in navigating the complex landscape of international financial regulations. This initiative is expected to contribute to Pakistan’s effective representation and collaboration within the FATF, aligning the country with international best practices.

The officers selected for deputation will be tasked with contributing their skills and knowledge to the FATF’s ongoing efforts to combat financial crimes on a global scale. Additionally, their presence within the FATF Secretariat will serve as a platform for Pakistan to actively engage in shaping policies and initiatives aimed at strengthening the global financial system.

As the deadline for submission of CVs approaches, officers within the FBR are expected to actively consider this opportunity, recognizing the significance of their potential contribution to international financial governance. Pakistan’s proactive involvement in international forums like the FATF demonstrates a commitment to aligning domestic policies with global standards and fostering a collaborative approach to address shared challenges in the realm of financial regulation and counter-terrorism financing.
