Godzilla Minus Zero Trailer Reveals Desperate Human Fight Against Kaiju

A nuclear bomb is deployed as humanity’s last resort against Godzilla in the latest trailer for the upcoming Japanese monster film Godzilla Minus Zero, offering fans a first glimpse at the escalating battle between humans and the legendary kaiju.

Released on Thursday, July 9, alongside a new poster, the trailer showcases the destruction caused by the giant creature and the extreme measures taken by survivors as they struggle to defend themselves from another catastrophic attack.

Godzilla Minus Zero serves as the sequel to the 2023 Japanese blockbuster Godzilla Minus One, which earned global acclaim and became the first non-English language film to win the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.

Godzilla Minus Zero Storyline Set After Godzilla Minus One

According to the film’s official synopsis, Godzilla Minus Zero is set in 1949, two years after the events of Godzilla Minus One. The story continues following the Shikishima family as they face a new disaster caused by the return of an even greater threat.

The upcoming film once again brings back writer and director Takashi Yamazaki, who is returning to lead the next chapter of the acclaimed reboot series.

Godzilla Minus One Became Japan’s Biggest Godzilla Film

Released in 2023, Godzilla Minus One became the 37th entry in the long-running Godzilla franchise and the 33rd film produced by Toho, the studio that originally introduced the iconic monster in 1954.

The movie earned approximately $116 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing Japanese Godzilla film ever and one of Japan’s biggest theatrical releases of 2023.

The film starred Ryunosuke Kamiki as a former kamikaze pilot struggling with the aftermath of war while facing Godzilla, alongside Minami Hamabe, who portrayed his wife.

Both actors are expected to reprise their roles in Godzilla Minus Zero.

Godzilla Minus One Made Oscar History

At the 2024 Academy Awards, Godzilla Minus One achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Japanese and first non-English language film to win the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.

The film defeated major Hollywood productions including Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, The Creator, Napoleon, and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning to claim the award.

Godzilla Minus Zero Release Date

Godzilla Minus Zero is scheduled to release in Japanese cinemas on November 3, marking another major chapter in Toho’s iconic monster franchise.

The film will arrive in US theatres on November 6, allowing international audiences to experience the latest battle between humanity and the legendary kaiju.
