The Rhode founder says discussing premenstrual dysphoric disorder openly can help women feel less isolated, as she highlights the need for more research into women’s health.

Hailey Bieber has opened up about her struggle with premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) following the birth of her son, Jack Blues, in August 2024, highlighting the importance of raising awareness about women’s health.

The model and Rhode founder, who is married to singer Justin Bieber, revealed her experience in an interview with WWD, saying there was limited public discussion and research surrounding the condition.

“After I had my son, I struggled with [PMDD] a bit, and there’s just not a lot of conversation or research around it,” she said.

PMDD is a severe form of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), which can cause symptoms including anxiety, depression, panic attacks, insomnia, fatigue and mood swings.

Bieber said speaking openly about the condition could help women feel less alone while dealing with its challenges.

Her latest revelation follows earlier comments on the Therapuss podcast, where she discussed experiencing a “mini stroke” in 2022. She also revealed that she was born with a patent foramen ovale, a heart defect that required surgery.

Bieber said these medical experiences made her more conscious of her health and contributed to her anxiety.

Her interest in women’s health has also influenced her business activities. Her beauty brand, Rhode, pledged $5 million to the Foundation for Women’s Health over three years to support research.

Bieber sold Rhode to e.l.f. Beauty in 2025 for $1 billion, further expanding her business profile.
