Pak Met Department

Islamabad, May 13, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a forecast predicting high day temperatures for most districts of Sindh on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, signaling the continuation of hot and dry weather conditions in the region.

According to the PMD’s weather forecast for Sindh on May 14, 2024, predominantly hot and dry weather is expected to prevail across most districts of the province. Daytime temperatures are anticipated to rise gradually, particularly in plain areas, intensifying the ongoing heatwave.

Expanding the outlook to cover the entire country on the same day, the PMD reiterated expectations of mainly hot and dry weather across most parts of Pakistan. Additionally, a gradual increase in daytime temperatures is anticipated, particularly in southern regions. These weather patterns are attributed to the prevalence of continental air masses over the majority of the country.

Reflecting on the weather conditions observed on Monday, May 13, 2024, the PMD reported predominantly dry weather across Pakistan. However, isolated instances of rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms were recorded in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, the Pothohar region, and Gilgit Baltistan.

Rainfall measurements for the past 24 hours include 4mm in Saidu Sharif, 3mm in Rawalakot, and varying amounts in other regions such as Kakul, Dir (Upper), Chakwal, Islamabad (A/P), and Astore. Despite these localized occurrences, hot and dry weather conditions persisted in most parts of the country.

The recorded highest maximum temperatures for the day reached 45°C in Turbat and Jacobabad, while Rohri and Khairpur experienced temperatures of 44°C. These soaring temperatures underscore the intensity of the heatwave gripping certain areas and highlight the need for precautionary measures to mitigate its impact on public health and wellbeing.

As the mercury continues to rise, authorities advise residents to remain hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak daytime hours, and take necessary precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses. Additionally, farmers and agricultural workers are urged to adopt appropriate measures to safeguard crops and livestock against the adverse effects of extreme heat.

The PMD’s weather forecast serves as a valuable resource for individuals, communities, and authorities, enabling them to prepare and respond effectively to prevailing weather conditions. As Sindh braces for high day temperatures on May 14, 2024, vigilance and proactive measures are essential to ensure the wellbeing and safety of all residents.
