Pakistan’s seasoned all-rounder, Imad Wasim, has officially called time on his international cricket career. The 34-year-old shared his decision on social media, expressing that after thoughtful consideration, he believes this is the opportune moment to retire.
“In recent days, reflecting on my international career, I’ve concluded that now is the right time for me to announce my retirement from international cricket,” Wasim stated in his announcement.
Acknowledging the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), he added, “I would like to extend my gratitude to the PCB for their unwavering support throughout the years. Representing Pakistan has been a true honor.”
Wasim’s international journey includes 55 ODIs and 66 T20Is for Pakistan, amassing a total of 1472 runs and claiming 109 wickets.
In his farewell message, Wasim expressed, “Every one of my 121 appearances across ODIs and T20Is was a dream come true. With new coaches and leadership on the horizon, it’s an exciting time for Pakistan cricket. I wish all involved every success, and I eagerly anticipate watching the team excel.”
He also took a moment to thank the passionate Pakistan fans, saying, “Thank you to the Pakistan fans for supporting me with such fervor. A final expression of gratitude to my family and friends, crucial in helping me achieve at the highest level. I now look forward to focusing on the next stage of my playing career away from the international stage.”
Wasim concluded his international career earlier this year with a notable performance against New Zealand in a T20I, contributing with a quick 31 off 14 balls and taking two wickets. Notably, he was a pivotal part of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy-winning side in 2017.
