India Announces Men’s Squad for 19th Asian Games Hangzhou

India has revealed the lineup for their men’s squad for the highly anticipated 19th Asian Games Hangzhou, taking place from September 19 to October 8.

In a strategic move, Ruturaj Gaikwad has been appointed as the captain of the Indian men’s squad for the upcoming Asian Games T20 competition.

The team consists of a talented group of young players including Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, and Jitesh Sharma.

Considering the close proximity of the ICC Men’s Cricket ODI World Cup, scheduled to commence in India on October 5, just two days before the Asian Games cricket tournament concludes, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made the decision to field a second-string men’s side in Hangzhou.

Six T20I players from the tour of West Indies have been retained for the Asian Games: Jaiswal, Tilak, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar, and Avesh Khan.

Rinku Singh, who showcased his exceptional power-hitting and finishing skills in the Indian Premier League, has earned his maiden call-up, while Jitesh Sharma returns to the T20I squad after being left out of the touring party to West Indies.

Prabhsimran Singh has also been included as another wicketkeeping option in the squad. Furthermore, Washington Sundar and Rahul Tripathi make their return to the T20I squad, along with all-rounder Shivam Dube, who last represented India in 2020. Shahbaz Ahmed and Shivam Mavi have also been featured in the squad announced for the competition.

The reserve players include Yash Thakur, Sai Kishore, Sai Sudharsan, and capped players Venkatesh Iyer and Deepak Hooda.
