ISLAMABAD, August 20, 2024 – In light of the escalating threat of monkeypox, the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Administration has ramped up its efforts to safeguard public health by enhancing screening measures at Islamabad International Airport.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad, Irfan Nawaz Memon, took proactive steps by personally inspecting the airport’s screening procedures to ensure comprehensive measures are in place. According to an official statement from the ICT administration, the DC’s visit underscored the administration’s commitment to preventing the spread of the virus and protecting citizens.
During his visit, DC Memon reviewed the screening process for passengers arriving from international destinations. He emphasized the importance of a thorough and expedited screening process, instructing health officials to ensure that every passenger is carefully monitored. The directive aims to ensure that no potential case of monkeypox goes undetected, thereby reducing the risk of the virus spreading within the country.
The DC expressed his satisfaction with the health department staff’s diligence, noting their active role in screening every passenger arriving from abroad. He also highlighted the need for swift action if any symptoms of monkeypox are identified. Passengers exhibiting symptoms will be promptly isolated and transferred to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital, where they will receive specialized care.
In preparation for potential cases, PIMS Hospital has been designated as an isolation management unit, equipped to handle and treat monkeypox patients. The hospital has made special arrangements to isolate affected individuals, ensuring that the virus does not spread within the facility. Additionally, a special focal person has been appointed to oversee operations related to the management of monkeypox cases, reflecting the district administration’s coordinated response to the public health threat.
These measures represent a robust and vigilant approach by the ICT Administration in response to the monkeypox threat. The administration’s quick action and thorough preparation underscore its commitment to controlling the spread of the virus and ensuring the safety of Islamabad’s residents.
As the situation develops, the ICT Administration will continue to monitor and adjust its strategies to protect public health, while encouraging citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with health authorities in following recommended safety protocols.
