Johnny Depp transforms into Scrooge in first look at Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol

Dark first-look poster reveals Depp as Ebenezer Scrooge as the fantasy adaptation confirms a November 13, 2026 theatrical release.

Johnny Depp has unveiled his dramatic transformation into Ebenezer Scrooge as the makers of Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol released the first official poster and confirmed the film’s theatrical release date.

The upcoming Christmas fantasy film, directed by Ti West, will arrive in cinemas on November 13, 2026, during the Thanksgiving movie season.

The official Instagram account for the film shared the first-look poster with the caption: “The name you know. The story you don’t. Johnny Depp is Ebenezer Scrooge in #EbenezerMovie – only in theatres November 13.”

The poster presents a dark and mysterious version of the iconic Dickens character. Depp’s face is mostly concealed beneath a snow-covered black top hat, with only his piercing eyes visible. The tagline reads: “Before he was a Scrooge he was… Ebenezer.”

Depp also joined the promotional campaign by posting three separate images on his Instagram account featuring the words “Bah,” “Hum,” and “Bug”—a playful reference to Scrooge’s famous phrase, “Bah, Humbug.”

His captions, “This November…,” “Prepare to be…,” and “Humbugged,” quickly fuelled excitement among fans.

Social media users welcomed Depp’s return with enthusiasm. One fan wrote, “He’s sooo back!”, while another commented, “We are so ready for this!”

Others praised the actor’s casting, with one fan writing, “Before he was Scrooge he was… already an absolute legend,” while another added, “Eager to see your version of the Dickens classic, JD!”

Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol is based on Charles Dickens’ classic 1843 novella A Christmas Carol, but promises a fresh take on the legendary tale.

According to the film’s official IMDb synopsis, the story follows “one man’s supernatural journey to face his past, present and future as he fights for a second chance at redemption” in Dickens’ London.

The ensemble cast includes Rupert Grint, Andrea Riseborough, Tramell Tillman, Ian McKellen, and Daisy Ridley alongside Depp.

With its star-studded cast, darker visual style and fresh interpretation of one of literature’s most enduring stories, Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated holiday releases of 2026.
