KARACHI, April 11 – Karachi is expected to experience very hot and dry weather on Sunday, with temperatures likely to climb as high as 39 degrees Celsius, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said in an advisory issued on Saturday.
The Met Office forecast said the maximum temperature in the city would range between 37°C and 39°C, driven by low humidity levels that are contributing to a steady rise in heat intensity across the metropolis.
Weather conditions are expected to remain dry with prolonged sunny spells, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly during peak daytime hours. Authorities have advised residents to limit outdoor activities and stay hydrated.
According to private weather service AccuWeather, the “RealFeel” temperature on Sunday could reach around 41°C, with a maximum ultraviolet (UV) index of 11, classified as “very unhealthy.” Winds are expected to blow from the northwest at around 13 km/h.
The hot spell is likely to persist into early next week. On Monday, temperatures are forecast to hover around 38°C with breezy conditions in the afternoon, raising the risk of dehydration and heatstroke for those exposed to the sun for extended periods.
By Tuesday, slightly lower temperatures near 37°C are expected, although conditions will remain very warm with continued sunny intervals and moderate winds.
Meteorologists say the prevailing weather pattern reflects typical pre-summer conditions in Karachi, but caution that the intensity of heat may pose health risks, particularly for vulnerable groups including children, the old-age and outdoor workers.
Residents are urged to take precautionary measures, including avoiding direct sunlight during midday hours and increasing water intake.
