Katy Perry has strongly denied allegations of sexual assault made by actress Ruby Rose, with the singer’s representative describing the claims as “categorically false” and “reckless.”
In a statement issued on Monday, Perry’s representative rejected accusations that surfaced on social media over the weekend, calling them “dangerous lies” and pointing to what they described as Rose’s “history of making serious public allegations” that have been denied by those involved.
The allegations were first posted by Rose on the social platform Threads, where she described an incident she said occurred nearly two decades ago at a nightclub in Melbourne. Rose said she was in her early 20s at the time and had only recently decided to speak publicly about the alleged encounter.
“I’m now 40. It has taken almost two decades to say this publicly,” Rose wrote, adding that she had previously framed the incident differently because she did not know how to process it.
In subsequent posts, Rose made further claims about the alleged incident and said she had not initially filed a police report, though she indicated she would be willing to pursue the matter legally. She later suggested she had visited a police station.
Reuters could not independently verify the claims or whether any formal complaint has been lodged.
Neither Perry nor her representatives indicated any plans for legal action in response to the allegations.
The exchange has drawn widespread attention online, highlighting the growing role of social media in surfacing allegations, while also raising concerns about verification and due process in high-profile disputes.
Both parties have not commented further beyond their initial public statements.
