Keanu Reeves has expressed heartfelt gratitude to U.S. and international authorities after several items stolen from his Los Angeles home in a 2023 burglary were successfully recovered.
The 61-year-old actor, best known for his role as retired assassin John Wick, had valuable possessions taken during the break-in — including a personalised Rolex watch featured in the blockbuster film franchise.
According to officials, the FBI worked closely with law enforcement in Chile to track down members of an organised theft group believed to be involved in the burglary. Their cooperation led to the recovery of some of Reeves’ missing belongings, which have now been returned to him.
In appreciation, Reeves sent a handwritten letter to the FBI, writing: “It is with profound gratitude and appreciation that I am writing this letter. Thank you so much for all your effort, dedication, professionalism and cross-border cooperation. My warmest regards, Keanu.”
Akil Davis, assistant director in charge of the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office, praised the coordinated international effort, calling the operation “a perfect example of the excellent cooperation we enjoy with our Chilean counterparts and our partners at the Los Angeles Police Department.” He noted that although burglary is handled locally, the FBI frequently collaborates with LAPD to share intelligence through the Major Theft Task Force.
“These crimes affect celebrities and non-public figures alike,” he added, reaffirming the agency’s commitment to supporting local authorities and protecting victims.
LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell echoed these sentiments, emphasising that modern criminal networks “know no borders.” He said the recovery of Reeves’ stolen possessions demonstrates the strength of international policing partnerships and sends a clear message to organised theft rings.
McDonnell added that he is proud of the joint efforts that led to accountability for those involved.
