Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez bids farewell as he embarks on a new chapter in his football career, joining Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ahli in a high-profile £30m transfer.

The Algerian winger, who still had two years remaining on his contract, leaves behind a successful stint with the Blues to embrace fresh challenges in the SPL.

During his time at Manchester City, Mahrez played a pivotal role in their triumphant Treble-winning campaign last season, impressively netting 15 goals in 47 games.

The 32-year-old expressed his gratitude for the honor and privilege of representing the City jersey and cherished the fond memories he created during his stay at the Etihad.

Mahrez’s move is in line with a growing trend, as other football stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, and Ruben Neves have also made their way to Saudi Arabia this summer.

This influx of top talent, along with significant managerial and administrative appointments like Steven Gerrard as Al-Ettifaq manager and Michael Emenalo as SPL’s director of football, solidifies the league’s ambition to become one of the world’s top five leagues.
