The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather forecast, highlighting the possibility of thunderstorms in upper Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) on Sunday, October 15, 2023. This forecast is part of a comprehensive update covering various regions of the country.

According to the PMD, a combination of windstorms, rain, and thunderstorms is expected in several areas, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, upper Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir. Additionally, high mountain areas may experience snowfall, while isolated hailstorms are anticipated in plain areas during this period.

The PMD predicts significant rainfall in Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the Pothohar region. However, dry weather is expected to prevail in other parts of the country.

In response to the forecast, the PMD has issued an alert, cautioning that moderate to heavy rainfall could elevate water flows in local Nullahs/streams, potentially leading to landslides in vulnerable areas of Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, and Abbottabad. This alert remains in effect from Saturday through Tuesday.

The synoptic situation, as reported by the PMD, is influenced by a westerly wave affecting upper and central parts of the country. Over the past 24 hours, rain and thunderstorms were reported in upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan, while dry weather prevailed in other regions.

The weather update also includes recorded rainfall figures for various areas, providing data for Narowal, Cherat, Kotli, and other notable regions.

Residents in the affected regions are advised to stay informed about evolving weather conditions and take necessary precautions. With the potential for increased water flows and landslides, local authorities are urged to be prepared to respond to emergencies resulting from the anticipated rainfall and thunderstorms.

The proactive issuance of weather forecasts and alerts by the PMD plays a crucial role in enabling communities to make informed decisions and ensure their safety during changing weather patterns. As the country braces for these weather changes, vigilance and preparedness remain essential components of public safety.
