Millie Bobby Brown has revealed that she struggled with depression after the conclusion of Netflix’s hit series Stranger Things, describing the emotional toll of saying goodbye to the show that shaped much of her childhood and career.

Speaking on the June 24 episode of Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast while promoting Enola Holmes 3, the actress reflected on the difficult period that followed the end of filming for the popular sci-fi drama in December 2025.

Brown, who portrayed Eleven throughout the show’s five-season run, said she did not anticipate how deeply the experience would affect her.

“It was very hard for me. I would not have expected that coming off of the show. I’m a very happy-go-lucky person,” Brown said during the podcast interview.

The actress explained that she felt anxious about maintaining her close relationships with cast members after production wrapped. Brown said she reached out to her longtime co-stars, including Gaten Matarazzo, Noah Schnapp, Caleb McLaughlin, Finn Wolfhard and Sadie Sink, hoping to preserve the bond they had built over a decade of working together.

According to Brown, she found herself trying to resolve any past misunderstandings and reassure herself that the friendships would continue beyond the series.

She also recalled a particularly emotional moment after filming ended, saying she visited a beach and spent much of the time crying as she processed the end of a significant chapter in her life.

Brown noted that she began filming Stranger Things when she was just 10 years old, making the cast and crew an integral part of her upbringing.

“I started the show when I was 10, and this character was me,” she said. “These people were in my life more than my own family.”

The actress added that she would miss playing Eleven more than anything, describing the farewell as one of the most emotional experiences of her career.

Just days after sharing her struggles, Brown attended the world premiere of Enola Holmes 3 in New York City, where she reunited with her Stranger Things co-star Noah Schnapp on the red carpet.

Enola Holmes 3 is scheduled to premiere worldwide on July 1, 2026, and will be available for streaming on Netflix.
