The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has issued a serious warning to Pakistani citizens following a massive data breach affecting over 2.7 million individuals.
In an official alert, NADRA strongly advised the public to avoid using unofficial websites or mobile applications claiming to represent the authority.
The alert was backed by Federal Minister for IT & Telecom, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, who emphasized the importance of digital security amid growing threats of identity theft and data misuse. She urged citizens to remain vigilant and proactive in protecting their personal information online.
“In this digital age, cyber safety is as critical as physical safety. Always use verified platforms and never share sensitive information with untrusted sources,” said the minister.
Key Safety Guidelines from NADRA:
Only use official NADRA platforms, such as Pak Identity, for ID services and applications.
Avoid third-party apps or websites that mimic NADRA branding.
Do not share your CNIC number, biometric data, or any personal information with unverified or suspicious sources.
Report any suspicious activity immediately through official NADRA helplines or the cybercrime wing of the FIA.
The breach has heightened fears of identity fraud, as stolen data can be misused for illegal SIM registrations, financial scams, or unauthorized access to digital services.
Cybersecurity experts are calling for stricter regulations and increased awareness campaigns to educate the public on best practices for digital safety. NADRA is also reviewing its systems and promises to enhance data protection measures in light of the breach.
As cyber threats continue to evolve, authorities are urging every citizen to treat their digital identity like a national asset—one that requires constant protection and vigilance.
