Islamabad, August 19, 2023 – The Pakistan Meteorologist Department (PMD) has issued a weather advisory indicating the possibility of thundershowers in isolated areas of northeast Punjab today.
According to the latest weather forecast provided by the Met Office, a mainly hot and humid weather pattern is expected to persist across most of the plain regions of the country. However, there is a chance of rain, accompanied by gusty winds and thundershowers, in certain pockets of northeast Punjab, as well as in Kashmir and the surrounding hilly areas.
The synoptic situation leading to these weather conditions involves the presence of light moist currents originating from the Arabian Sea. These currents continue to flow into the upper regions of Pakistan. Additionally, a weak westerly wave has been identified in the northern parts of the country, contributing to the unsettled weather conditions.
Over the past 24 hours, most parts of the country experienced hot and humid conditions. However, there were recorded instances of rainfall in specific areas. The recorded rainfall measured 12 mm in Parachinar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and 02 mm in Chakwal, Punjab.
As for the highest maximum temperatures recorded today, Bhakkar, Sibbi, and Dalbandin topped the charts with a scorching 42 degrees Celsius.
Residents and travelers in the northeast Punjab region are advised to stay informed about the changing weather conditions and take necessary precautions, considering the potential for thundershowers. It is recommended to stay updated through official weather sources and heed any alerts or advisories issued by local authorities.
