Scattered Thundershowers Predicted in Kashmir and Adjacent Areas on August 18

Islamabad, August 18, 2023 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather forecast indicating the likelihood of thundershowers in isolated areas of Kashmir today.

As of Friday, August 18, 2023, the PMD has predicted predominantly hot and humid weather across the plain regions of the country. However, the forecast also points towards the possibility of rain, accompanied by wind and thundershowers, occurring in isolated spots within the Potohar region, northeast Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, Kashmir, and adjacent hilly territories.

Explaining the current synoptic situation, the Meteorological Office has highlighted the infiltration of weak moist currents from the Arabian Sea into the upper parts of the country. Additionally, a westerly wave has been identified in the upper regions.

Over the past 24 hours, hot and humid weather conditions have prevailed over the majority of the country. Nevertheless, instances of rain, wind, and thundershowers were observed in limited areas, including Islamabad, upper Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir.

Rainfall measurements in millimeters included: Islamabad (Saidpur 59, Zero point 39, Golra 04, Bokra 01), Rawalpindi (Shamsabad 18, Chaklala 11, Kacheri 02), Murree 05, Joharabad, Mangla 01, Gilgit-Baltistan: Babusar 12, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa: Kalam 08, Bacha Khan Airport 02, Malam Jabba 01, and Kashmir: Rawalakot 03 and Garhi Dupatta 01.

The highest recorded maximum temperatures for the day are as follows (°C): Bhakkar 42, D.I.Khan, Dadu, and Sibbi 41.

Residents and travelers in the affected regions are advised to stay updated with local weather reports and take necessary precautions, given the potential for thundershowers.
