Olivia Rodrigo says new single The Cure helped define the emotional direction of her upcoming third studio album
Olivia Rodrigo marked the release of her new single The Cure with an emotional message to fans, describing the song as deeply personal and central to the creative direction of her upcoming album.
The 23-year-old pop star shared a series of behind-the-scenes photographs from the music video shoot on Instagram on Friday, celebrating the launch of both the song and its accompanying video.
“The Cure song and video is out now,” Rodrigo wrote, adding that the track “means so much” to her and expressing excitement about finally sharing it with listeners.
The singer also thanked longtime collaborator Dan Nigro, praising him as “the best producer/songwriter in the game,” while acknowledging directors Bead Lizard and Cat Solen for creating what she described as an imaginative music video.
Rodrigo said the song served as the “thesis statement” for her forthcoming third studio album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, and noted that the track helped the overall concept of the album “click” creatively.
The Cure is the second single released from the upcoming project and continues Rodrigo’s exploration of emotional vulnerability, self-doubt and complicated relationships — themes that have defined much of her recent music.
The Grammy-winning artist rose to global fame with breakout hits including drivers license and Happier, becoming one of the leading voices in contemporary pop music.
Fans quickly reacted online to the release, praising both the emotional depth of the lyrics and the cinematic style of the music video.
