Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a warning of further monsoon rains across the country from July 13 to July 17, with intermittent breaks in between.
According to the Met Office, monsoon currents originating from the Arabian Sea are expected to penetrate the upper and central parts of Pakistan starting from the evening of July 12. These currents are predicted to intensify on July 14. Additionally, a westerly wave is projected to enter the upper regions on the evening of July 14.
As a result of these weather systems, the following areas are expected to experience rain, wind, and thundershowers, with heavy downpours occurring in some places:
• Kashmir: Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur.
• Murree and Galliyat.
• Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
• Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, and Mandi Bahauddin.
• Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Kasur, and Okara.
This rainy weather pattern is expected to persist from the evening of July 12 until July 17, with intermittent breaks.
In addition, the following regions will also experience rain, wind, and thundershowers, including heavy falls:
• Gilgit Baltistan: Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, and Shigar.
• Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Kurram, Lakki Marwat, Kohat, D.I Khan, Bannu, Karak, Waziristan, Mianwali, Khusab, Sargodha, Hafizabad, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Jhang, and Toba Tek Singh.
This weather pattern will be in effect from the evening of July 13 until July 17, with intermittent breaks.
Furthermore, rain and wind-thundershowers are also expected in the following areas:
• Barkhan, Loralai, Kalat, Khuzdar, Zhob, Lasbella, Awaran, Musakhel, D.G Khan, Rajanpur, Multan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Kot Addu, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Nagarparkar, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Sanghar, and Mirpur Khas.
These conditions will prevail from the evening of July 14 until the night of July 16.
The Met Office has cautioned about potential impacts and provided some advice to the public:
1. Urban flooding may occur in low-lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gujranwala, and Lahore from July 14 to July 17. Additionally, landslides are a possibility in vulnerable areas such as Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, and hilly regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during this period.
2. Farmers are advised to manage their agricultural activities in accordance with the weather forecast.
3. Tourists and travelers are urged to exercise extra caution and take necessary precautions to avoid any untoward incidents during the wet spell.
4. Loose structures, such as electric poles and solar panels, may be damaged by dust storms and wind-thunderstorms.
5. The general public is advised to seek safe shelter during windstorms and heavy rains.
It is crucial for individuals to stay informed about the changing weather conditions and heed the advice provided by the authorities to ensure their safety and well-being during this period of inclement weather.
