CBU vehicle imports climb to $78.97 million, with motor car and heavy vehicle shipments posting strong annual growth despite a monthly decline.
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s imports of completely built-up (CBU) vehicles surged 87.07 percent year-on-year (YoY) in value terms in July 2026, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
The PBS data showed that CBU vehicle imports were valued at $78.97 million in July 2026, compared with $42.22 million in the corresponding month of 2025.
In quantity terms, CBU imports increased 83.26 percent YoY during the month.
However, CBU imports declined sharply on a month-on-month (MoM) basis, with their value falling 33.23 percent from $118.27 million in June 2026.
Motor car imports jump 74.84% YoY
Within the CBU category, motor car imports reached $57.43 million in July 2026, compared with $32.85 million in July 2025.
This represents a 74.84 percent YoY increase in value, while the quantity of motor cars imported rose by 71.28 percent.
On a monthly basis, however, motor car imports declined 18.03 percent in value from $70.06 million in June.
Heavy vehicle imports surge 131.67%
Imports of buses, trucks and other heavy vehicles recorded an even stronger annual increase.
The value of these CBU imports rose to $21.21 million in July 2026, compared with $9.16 million in July 2025, representing a 131.67 percent YoY increase.
The quantity imported increased 126.92 percent during the period.
On a MoM basis, imports of heavy vehicles declined 55.87 percent from $48.07 million in June.
CKD/SKD vehicle imports also rise
Imports of vehicles in completely knocked down/semi-knocked down (CKD/SKD) form stood at $246.00 million in July 2026, compared with $190.34 million in July 2025.
The category therefore recorded a 29.24 percent YoY increase in value.
Motor car imports under the CKD/SKD category rose 39.69 percent YoY to $187.88 million, while motorcycle imports increased 119.28 percent to $10.78 million.
Overall transport imports decline MoM
Despite strong annual growth in vehicle imports, Pakistan’s overall transport group imports declined in July 2026 compared with June.
Transport imports stood at $422.31 million in July, compared with $474.37 million in June, representing a 10.97 percent MoM decline.
However, transport-group imports increased 39.71 percent YoY from $302.28 million in July 2025.
Imports of parts and accessories increased 37.30 percent YoY to $44.71 million, while aircraft, ships and boats imports surged 253.41 percent to $40.75 million.
The July data indicates a significant annual increase in Pakistan’s CBU vehicle imports, particularly motor cars and heavy vehicles, despite a notable month-on-month decline from the exceptionally high import levels recorded in June.
