Pakistan Excels with Gold, Silver Medals in Special Olympics

Pakistan cyclists and athletes displayed exceptional talent at the 16th Special Olympics World Games in Berlin, Germany, securing gold and silver medals. The remarkable achievement was made possible by the outstanding performances of Usman Qamar, a Pakistani cyclist, and two talented athletes.

Usman Qamar, representing Pakistan in the cycling event, triumphed by clinching the gold medal. In a display of extraordinary skill and determination, he completed the challenging 5 km road race in an impressive time of 7 minutes and 21.59 seconds. Usman’s hard work and rigorous training paid off as he achieved his dream of winning a gold medal at the World Games.

Expressing his gratitude, Usman credited Special Olympics Pakistan for their unwavering support and assistance, which played a crucial role in his journey to success.

Hailing from Islamabad, Usman has been actively involved in cycling since 2016, participating in two previous World Games, where he showcased his exceptional talent on the global stage.

In addition to Usman’s remarkable feat, Pakistan’s athletes excelled in the javelin events. Umair Kayani, a national athlete from Wah Cantt, secured the gold medal in the men’s javelin event with a remarkable throw of 38.81 meters.

Inspired by Pakistani Commonwealth Games gold medalist Arshad Nadeem, Umair aims to carve out a name for himself in the field of athletics.

Umaima Iftikhar, another talented athlete from Pakistan, brought further pride to the nation by securing the silver medal in the women’s javelin event with a throw of 10.47 meters. Both Umair and Umaima showcased their skill, determination, and commitment, earning accolades for their country.

The 16th Special Olympics World Games, which commenced on June 17, 2023, in Berlin, Germany, has gathered around 7,000 Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners from approximately 190 countries, competing in 26 sports.

This international event is supported by over 3,000 coaches and 20,000 volunteers, fostering an atmosphere of inclusivity and celebration of exceptional athletic achievements.
