Karachi, July 24, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted persistent hot and humid weather for Thursday, July 25, 2024, with much of the country expected to experience oppressive conditions.
According to the forecast of Pakistan Met Office, the majority of Pakistan will be under the influence of high temperatures and humidity. However, there will be some relief in the form of isolated rain, windstorms, and thundershowers, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper and central Punjab, Kashmir, and northeast Balochistan.
The synoptic analysis of Pakistan Met office highlights that weak Monsoon currents are advancing into the central and upper parts of the country at lower tropospheric levels. This is coupled with a westerly wave affecting northern regions, which is expected to influence the overall weather pattern. These factors are contributing to the high humidity and sporadic weather disturbances anticipated over the next day.
On Wednesday, July 24, 2024, the weather remained consistently hot and humid across Pakistan. Rain, along with wind and thunderstorms, was observed sporadically in regions including northeast and south Punjab, the Pothohar region, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and northeast Balochistan. The previous 24 hours had similar weather patterns, with localized rain and thundershowers recorded in eastern and central Punjab, Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Recent rainfall measurements reveal significant variations:
• Punjab: Bahawalnagar received 40 mm, Sheikhupura 16 mm, Okara 10 mm, Noorpurthal 05 mm, and Faisalabad 04 mm.
• Gilgit-Baltistan: Gilgit recorded 02 mm.
• Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Drosh noted 01 mm.
• Kashmir: Rawalakot also recorded 01 mm.
Temperature records today were notably high, with Sibbi and Dalbandin reaching 47°C, Nokkundi 46°C, and Jacobabad 45°C. These extreme temperatures, combined with high humidity levels, are expected to create uncomfortable conditions for residents.
The PMD has advised the public to take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses, including staying hydrated and avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. For those in areas expected to experience rain and thunderstorms, the department recommends staying informed about weather updates and preparing for potential localized disturbances.
As Pakistan continues to contend with severe weather conditions, the PMD will offer ongoing updates to ensure public safety and preparedness. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and heed the department’s advisories to navigate the challenging weather effectively.
