Pakistan, Iran inaugurate electricity transmission project

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Seyed Ebrahim Raisi on Thursday came together to inaugurate a significant development project, marking a new chapter in the bilateral relations between Pakistan and Iran.

The leaders unveiled the 100 MW Polan-Gabd electricity transmission line project, connecting Iran to the strategic port city of Gwadar in Pakistan. The inauguration ceremony took place at the Mand-Pishin crossing point of the Pakistan-Iran border.

Accompanied by their respective delegations, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Seyed Ebrahim Raisi expressed their shared commitment to strengthening ties between their nations through this vital infrastructure project.

The transmission line, which had been pending since 2009, was completed in an impressive record time of four months under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Marriyum Aurangzeb, hailed the completion of the project as a significant milestone for both countries. She emphasized that the new transmission line would have a transformative impact on the region, unlocking immense opportunities for development, trade, business, and employment. The project is set to contribute to the future prosperity of the people of Gwadar and Balochistan.

In addition to the power transmission project, the two leaders also inaugurated a sustenance marketplace at the Mand-Pishin crossing point.
