Islamabad, October 30, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued its weather outlook for Thursday, October 31, 2024, indicating primarily dry conditions across most regions of the country, while hilly areas are expected to experience cold weather during the morning and night hours.
According to the PMD, continental air is dominating the atmospheric conditions over the majority of Pakistan. This weather pattern contributes to the dry spell anticipated across various provinces, particularly in the plains. The forecast for Wednesday, October 30, 2024, also suggested dry weather for most areas, with cooler temperatures in elevated regions. However, isolated instances of partly cloudy weather and light rainfall were reported in Gilgit-Baltistan, along with light snowfall over the higher mountains, bringing a refreshing change to the usually dry conditions.
Over the past 24 hours, dry weather prevailed across much of the country, although southern Sindh experienced notably hot conditions. Rain, accompanied by wind and thunderstorms, affected isolated areas, including Islamabad, the Pothohar region, parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir.
The recorded rainfall (in mm) for various regions included:
• Punjab: Islamabad (Airport) 09, Bokra 02, City 01; Murree 07; Attock 03; Rawalpindi (Shamsabad, Kacheri) 01.
• Gilgit-Baltistan: Skardu 09; Astore 03.
• Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa: Pattan 09; Dir (Upper) 09; Malam Jabba 09; Saidu Sharif 01.
• Kashmir: Muzaffarabad (City) 03; Muzaffarabad (Airport) 01; Garhi Dupatta 02; Rawalakot 01.
The highest recorded maximum temperatures across various cities today were notably high, with Sibbi and Tandojam reaching 40°C, while Mithi, Hyderabad, Lasbella, Turbat, and Shaheed Benazirabad recorded 39°C. These temperatures indicate a continuation of the warm conditions in southern regions as the transition to winter progresses.
Looking ahead, the PMD encourages residents to stay informed of the latest weather updates, especially those in hilly areas, where temperatures are expected to drop significantly during the night. As dry weather prevails, farmers and agricultural stakeholders should be aware of potential impacts on crop irrigation and management practices.
As Pakistan approaches the winter months, the PMD will continue to monitor weather patterns closely, providing timely updates to ensure public safety and preparedness in the face of changing climatic conditions.
