Karachi, October 30, 2024 – The Port Qasim Authority (PQA) has released its shipping activity report for Wednesday, October 30, 2024, providing crucial insights for stakeholders engaged in maritime trade. The port witnessed a busy day, with several vessels arriving to facilitate the loading and unloading of various cargoes.
On Tuesday, five ships, including the Navios Tempo, MSC Positano, Doris, SC Hong Kong, and Milaha Ras Laffan, successfully berthed at key terminals within the port. These vessels were designated for the loading and offloading of diverse goods, including containers, rice, chemicals, and liquefied natural gas (LNG). The respective terminals utilized included the Qasim International Container Terminal, Multi-Purpose Terminal, Engro Vopak Terminal, and Pakistan Gas Port Terminal, underscoring the port’s versatility in handling multiple cargo types.
Additionally, a vessel named ‘Green Genie’ arrived at the outer anchorage during the last 24 hours, also scheduled for the loading and unloading of rice, further emphasizing the port’s significant role in facilitating agricultural exports.
In total, ten ships were engaged at PQA berths over the past 24 hours. Among them, a hydrocarbons carrier, South Port, departed from the port early this morning, while five more vessels—Navios Tempo, MSC Positano, Scarlet Rosella, SC Hong Kong, and Zarrar Hanif—are expected to set sail today, indicating a dynamic turnover of maritime traffic.
During this period, the port handled a substantial cargo volume of 196,510 tonnes, which comprised 126,003 tonnes of imported goods and 70,507 tonnes of exports. The cargo was processed through 5,196 containers, with 2,504 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) designated for imports and 2,692 TEUs for exports, highlighting the port’s efficiency in managing significant trade flows.
At the outer anchorage of Port Qasim, twelve additional ships were present, with three vessels—Morning, Sea Quest, and Lowlands Amstel—alongside four others—Arkas, Maersk Cabo Verde, One Reinforcement, and X-Press Anglesey—scheduled to load and unload rice, gas oil, coal, and containers. These vessels are expected to dock at various terminals including FAP, FOTCO, PIBT, PQEPT, and QICT on Wednesday.
Furthermore, the port anticipates the arrival of another container ship, Tucapel, set to reach the port on Thursday, which will continue to enhance the operational throughput of Port Qasim.
