Ahead of the pivotal second Test match against Bangladesh, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made key adjustments to the national squad.
The return of Abrar Ahmed and Kamran Ghulam highlights the selectors’ strategic approach to strengthen the team’s chances. Both players were originally part of the Test squad but were released before the first Test.
However, their exceptional performances in a recent four-day game between Pakistan Shaheens and Bangladesh ‘A’ in Islamabad caught the selectors’ attention, earning them a recall to the squad for the crucial second Test.
Abrar Ahmed, known for his sharp spin, and Kamran Ghulam, a reliable middle-order batsman, bring valuable experience and form into the squad. Their inclusion is expected to enhance Pakistan’s adaptability and depth in the lineup, providing the team with more options as they face a determined Bangladesh side.
Another significant return to the squad is that of Shaheen Shah Afridi, who was initially released after the first Test. Afridi’s presence is a major boost for Pakistan’s bowling attack, especially given his ability to deliver crucial breakthroughs in high-pressure situations.
His pace and experience will be pivotal in countering Bangladesh’s batting lineup, which showed resilience in the first Test.
Additionally, Aamir Jamal has rejoined the squad after being previously released to focus on his fitness. However, his participation in the second Test will hinge on a fitness assessment.
Jamal’s all-round abilities, if cleared to play, could provide Pakistan with a much-needed balance, particularly in the lower-middle order and as a backup bowling option.
The second Test match between Pakistan and Bangladesh is set to take place at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium from August 30 to September 3.
With the series on the line, Pakistan will be looking to capitalize on the home conditions and the squad’s recent reinforcements to secure a victory.
The Pakistan squad for the second Test now features Shan Masood as captain, with Saud Shakeel serving as vice-captain. Other notable names in the squad include Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Sarfaraz Ahmed, who will share the wicket-keeping duties.
The inclusion of young talents like Abdullah Shafique and Saim Ayub, alongside experienced players, showcases a balanced mix of youth and experience.
As the second Test approaches, Pakistan will be eager to improve on their first Test performance and aim for a series victory against Bangladesh.
