Prime Minister says AI, digital skills and vocational training are key to creating employment opportunities for Pakistan’s youth.
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday directed the relevant authorities to accelerate efforts to formulate an effective and comprehensive employment strategy under the Prime Minister’s Youth Program (PMYP) to create more job opportunities for young people across Pakistan.
The directive came during a meeting with Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Youth Program Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan, who briefed the prime minister on the progress of ongoing initiatives being implemented under the flagship youth development programme.
Prime Minister Shehbaz stressed that providing world-class education and high-quality vocational training to young people remained one of the government’s top priorities. He said Pakistan’s youth possess immense potential and must be equipped with the skills needed to compete in the rapidly evolving global economy.
Highlighting the growing importance of technology, the prime minister said equipping young people with artificial intelligence (AI), digital skills, modern technologies, and entrepreneurial capabilities has become an urgent national requirement.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to utilizing all available resources to ensure equal opportunities for youth in employment, business, education, and skills development.
“The government is taking every possible step to empower young people and enable them to contribute effectively to the country’s economic growth,” the prime minister said.
Shehbaz Sharif also described educated and skilled youth as the foundation of Pakistan’s future, emphasizing that a trained workforce is essential for strengthening the country’s economy, industrial development, innovation, and social progress.
During the meeting, Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan presented an update on the implementation of various projects under the Prime Minister’s Youth Program, including initiatives aimed at promoting education, entrepreneurship, vocational training, and employment generation.
The government has repeatedly identified youth development as a key pillar of its economic agenda, with increasing emphasis on digital transformation, innovation, and skills-based education to prepare Pakistan’s workforce for future challenges.
The latest directives reflect the government’s broader strategy to expand employment opportunities while enhancing the capabilities of Pakistan’s young population through modern education, technical training, and entrepreneurship initiatives.
