ISLAMABAD, April 22 — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to environmental protection and climate action, urging collective efforts at both national and international levels to safeguard the planet.
In a message marking Earth Day, the prime minister said the country was observing the occasion with a strong sense of responsibility, highlighting the urgent need to protect natural resources and maintain ecological balance.
Sharif stressed that the Earth’s resources are vital for sustaining human life, economic development, and biodiversity, including flora and fauna. He noted that environmental degradation and climate change pose serious threats to global stability and quality of life.
“The Government of Pakistan remains committed to protecting natural resources, conserving biodiversity, and addressing environmental challenges through concrete measures,” he said, adding that the promotion of renewable energy and sustainable development remains a key policy priority.
The prime minister also emphasised the importance of raising public awareness, calling on citizens to play their role in environmental conservation. He said both individual and collective responsibility were essential to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment for future generations.
Highlighting the global dimension of environmental challenges, Sharif called for enhanced international cooperation and coordinated strategies to combat climate change effectively.
He warned that the world is facing increasing climate intensity, unusual weather patterns, and ecological disruptions, which are clear indicators of environmental stress. Pakistan, he noted, is among the countries most vulnerable to climate change impacts, making it imperative to strengthen resilience and adaptation efforts.
Sharif urged the nation to renew its commitment to environmental stewardship, stating that protecting the planet is fundamental to ensuring a sustainable and prosperous future for coming generations.
