ISLAMABAD, April 27 — The Pakistan Meteorological Department on Monday forecast hot and dry weather in Islamabad over the next 24 hours, with chances of isolated thunderstorms and light rain later in the day.
According to the Met Office, daytime conditions in the federal capital are expected to remain hot and dry on Monday. However, partly cloudy skies accompanied by light rain, gusty winds and thunderstorms may develop at isolated locations during the evening and night, with a probability of around 30%.
For Tuesday, the weather is expected to turn slightly more unstable, with partly cloudy conditions and rain-windstorms or thunderstorms likely at isolated places in Islamabad and surrounding areas. The probability of precipitation has been placed at 45%, indicating an increased chance of scattered activity.
At the national level, a continental air mass continues to dominate most parts of the country, keeping temperatures elevated. Meanwhile, a shallow westerly trough is forecast to approach western and central regions from Monday evening, potentially triggering localized weather disturbances.
The PMD said that mainly hot and dry weather will persist across much of Pakistan on Monday. However, isolated rain and thunderstorms are expected in northern Balochistan and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the afternoon. Dust storms and light rain may also occur in Kashmir, the Potohar region, south and central Punjab, and upper Sindh during the evening.
On Tuesday, similar conditions are expected nationwide, with scattered thunderstorms likely in Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.
Over the past 24 hours, most plain areas remained hot and dry, although light rainfall was recorded in Mohenjo Daro. Temperatures peaked at 47°C in Shaheed Benazirabad and Sakrand, underscoring ongoing heatwave conditions.
