Karachi, June 15, 2025 — The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather advisory forecasting thunderstorm activity across multiple districts of Sindh, including the provincial capital, Karachi, over the next two days.
The department has warned of potential windstorms, dust-thunderstorms, and rainfall that may affect various parts of the province from June 15 to June 16.
According to the PMD’s latest weather bulletin, hot and humid conditions are expected to persist across most districts of Sindh on Sunday. However, there is a likelihood of partly cloudy weather with dust and thunderstorm-related rainfall at isolated locations. These include Mithi, Umerkot, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Shaheed Benazirabad, Khairpur, Dadu, Sukkur, Ghotki, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Hyderabad, and Karachi.
For Monday, June 16, the PMD predicts a continuation of this weather pattern, with hot and humid conditions prevailing in most areas of Sindh, but with an increased chance of thunderstorm activity at isolated spots. The presence of moist currents from the Arabian Sea and a westerly wave over central and upper Pakistan are contributing to the unstable weather conditions.
The PMD has also issued a national-level alert highlighting the risks associated with windstorms, dust-thunderstorms, hailstorms, and lightning. These phenomena could damage loose structures, including electric poles, solar panels, trees, and poorly secured vehicles. Residents across affected Sindh districts are advised to take precautionary measures.
In its synoptic overview, the PMD noted that while much of the country will continue to experience hot and dry weather, very hot temperatures are expected in plain regions. However, thunderstorm and rain activity is likely in parts of northeastern Balochistan, southern and eastern Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and southeastern Sindh.
Over the past 24 hours, Sindh witnessed isolated thunderstorm rainfall, with Shaheed Benazirabad recording 3mm. Jacobabad experienced soaring temperatures reaching 48°C, while Sukkur and Mohenjo Daro reported 46°C.
With the rising frequency of extreme weather events, the PMD continues to monitor developments closely and urges the public in Sindh, particularly in Karachi, to stay updated through official channels and heed safety warnings during thunderstorm events.
