PMD Issues Weather Forecast for April 28, 2024

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has released a detailed weather forecast for Sunday, April 28, 2024, indicating a continuation of severe weather conditions across multiple regions in Pakistan.

Citizens are advised to prepare for rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms, accompanied by isolated hailstorms, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper/central Punjab, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir. The forecast also highlights the possibility of heavy falls in specific areas such as upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir.

According to the PMD, the ongoing weather pattern is being influenced by a strong westerly wave currently affecting the western and upper parts of the country. This system is expected to persist over the next two days, maintaining the unsettled weather conditions.

The department has also issued a warning regarding the potential for isolated to moderate heavy rainfall, which could lead to flash flooding in local streams and nullahs in areas including Dir, Swat, Chitral, Manshera, Kohistan, and Kashmir between April 27 and April 29. Additionally, there is a risk of landslides in prone regions such as Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan, which could impact vulnerable locations during this period.

Officials are particularly concerned about the adverse effects of windstorms, hailstorms, and lightning on human life, agricultural crops, and infrastructures such as electric poles, vehicles, and solar panels.

During the last 24 hours, the weather conditions have included rain-windstorm and thunderstorm activity in several provinces, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Punjab, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Upper Sindh. Notable rainfall measurements include 25 mm in Malam Jabba, 24 mm in Parachinar, and 23 mm in Kalam, among others.

The highest recorded temperatures yesterday reached 42°C in Kasur, with other regions such as Shaheed Benazirabad and Larkana experiencing highs of 41°C. This spike in temperature comes amidst the ongoing severe weather alerts and adds to the challenges faced by the residents of these areas.

Residents and travelers in the affected regions are advised to stay updated on weather conditions, prepare for possible disruptions, and heed any advisories issued by local authorities. The PMD continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as necessary.

For further details, individuals are encouraged to visit the PMD’s official website or contact local meteorological offices. As the country braces for more unpredictable weather, the importance of being prepared and staying informed cannot be overstressed.
