Islamabad, April 21, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted rain and thunderstorms for various regions, particularly Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, within the next 24 hours.
According to the latest weather advisory issued by the PMD, a westerly wave is currently influencing the upper parts of the country and is expected to persist in the northern areas through Tuesday.
In its forecast for April 22, 2025, the PMD stated that most parts of Pakistan are likely to experience mainly hot and dry weather conditions. However, isolated rain-wind or thunderstorms are expected in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and the upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This change in weather could bring some respite to residents facing high daytime temperatures, especially in the northern mountainous regions.
Highlighting the synoptic situation, the PMD noted that the prevailing westerly wave is contributing to the unstable weather pattern, bringing moisture and cooler air to upper Pakistan. The department emphasized that such systems are common during this transitional period between spring and summer.
On Monday, April 21, the PMD observed mostly hot and dry weather across the country, with particularly very hot conditions in the southern regions. Nonetheless, rainfall activity was reported in a few northern areas. In Kashmir, significant showers were recorded, including 15mm at Muzaffarabad Airport and 13mm in the city. Other locations like Rawalakot, Garhi Dopatta, and Kotli also received moderate rainfall.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, areas such as Kalam (16mm), Upper Dir (14mm), and Chitral experienced light to moderate rainfall. Gilgit-Baltistan also saw showers in Gupis, Chilas, and Gilgit, indicating widespread cloud activity across the northern belt.
The PMD has advised citizens in Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to stay alert for possible rain-related disruptions and local thunderstorm activity, particularly in hilly terrain. These rains may help reduce temperatures and ease dry conditions, while also benefiting agriculture in the affected areas.
With Kashmir under intermittent weather influence and PMD updates continuing, the public is encouraged to stay tuned to official forecasts for timely information.
