Port Qasim handles steady vessel traffic in latest operations update

Port Qasim Activity

KARACHI, April 20 — Shipping activity at Port Qasim Authority remained steady over the past 24 hours, with multiple vessels engaged in cargo handling, arrivals and departures, according to the latest operational report issued on Monday.

The port’s Marine Operations Department reported that 13 vessels were berthed at various terminals as of 0800 hours, handling a range of commodities including coal, containers, palm oil, cement and petroleum products. Cargo operations continued across key terminals such as QICT, PIBT, FOTCO and PQEPT, reflecting sustained throughput at one of Pakistan’s busiest ports.

Several vessels were also anchored at the outer anchorage awaiting berthing clearance. These included ships carrying coal, general cargo, soybean seed, paraxylene and bitumen, indicating a diverse cargo mix entering the port.

During the reporting period, cargo handling activity included significant unloading of coal consignments and containerized cargo, alongside the movement of liquid bulk such as palm oil and mogas. Operational data showed continued handling of import cargo, with limited export activity also recorded.

Port authorities said multiple vessels departed during the previous day, including container carriers and bulk cargo ships, while additional ships were scheduled to sail later on April 20. At the same time, several new vessels were expected to berth at different terminals, ensuring continuity in port operations.

Shipping movement logs indicated that vessels such as Chemroute Pegasus, Propel Fortune and Lofty Mountain were among those scheduled for departure, while incoming ships including Zhong Gu Kun Ming and Young Glory were set to dock at container and bulk terminals.

Officials said port operations remained smooth, supported by coordinated marine services and pilotage arrangements. The authority added that it continues to facilitate efficient cargo handling to support Pakistan’s trade and logistics chain.

Port Qasim plays a critical role in handling bulk, container and energy-related cargo, serving as a key gateway for the country’s imports and exports.
