Apple has officially entered the foldable phone market with the iPhone Duo, featuring dual ProMotion displays, the A20 Pro chip, advanced cameras and up to 2TB of storage.
Apple has officially unveiled the iPhone Duo, its first foldable smartphone, introducing a new design with a large folding display, a secondary cover screen and hardware developed specifically for the foldable form factor.
The iPhone Duo features a 7.6-inch main folding display and a 5.4-inch cover display, with both screens supporting ProMotion and reaching up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness. The inner display also incorporates an under-display selfie camera.
The device uses a titanium hinge with an integrated magnetic array designed to securely close the phone. Touch ID is built into the side button, while users can also unlock the device using an Apple Watch.
Apple has equipped the handset with Ceramic Shield on the rear and Ceramic Shield 2 on the front, alongside an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. A custom nano-texture finish is designed to reduce the visibility of the display crease, while the folding panel receives an additional scratch-resistant coating and is mounted on a titanium plate.
A20 Pro Chip and Connectivity
The iPhone Duo is powered by Apple’s new A20 Pro chipset, built using a 2nm process. It features a six-core CPU, seven-core GPU and dual 16-core NPUs.
Compared with the A19 Pro, Apple says the A20 Pro delivers a 20% faster CPU, up to 40% faster GPU and twice the Neural Engine computing power, alongside 50% greater unified memory bandwidth.
The smartphone also includes Apple’s C2 modem with US mmWave 5G support and the N1 connectivity chip, which enables Bluetooth 6 and Wi-Fi 7. The device is eSIM-only worldwide.
Cameras and Battery
For photography, the iPhone Duo has a 48MP Fusion main camera with an optical-quality 2x telephoto mode and a 48MP ultrawide camera with macro capabilities. A 12MP Center Stage camera is positioned on the cover display, while the inner screen uses an under-display selfie camera.
Apple claims up to 31 hours of video playback using the inner display and 44 hours using the outer display. Using both screens equally provides up to 24 hours of use. Wired charging can deliver 50% capacity in 20 minutes, while MagSafe or Qi2 wireless charging can reach 50% in 30 minutes.
iOS 27 and Pricing
iOS 27 has been adapted for the foldable design, with an adaptive interface that responds as the device folds and rotates. The system supports two-app Split View, while the redesigned home screen can display two pages simultaneously when unfolded.
The iPhone Duo will be available in Star White and Night Sky. Pricing starts at $1,999 for 256GB, rising to $2,199 for 512GB, $2,599 for 1TB and $3,199 for 2TB.
Pre-orders will begin on October 16, with retail availability scheduled for October 23. Apple also plans to add Apple Pencil support later this year.
