PSG prepares for Messi’s farewell match against Clermont

Lionel Messi’s final game for Paris St Germain (PSG) is scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 03, 2023, against Clermont, according to coach Christophe Galtier. In a press conference, Galtier urged PSG fans to give the Argentine forward a heartfelt send-off at the Parc des Princes.

Expressing his gratitude, Galtier said, “I had the privilege of coaching the greatest player in the history of football. This will be his last match at the Parc des Princes, and I hope that he will receive the warmest of welcomes.”

Throughout the season, Messi has contributed 21 goals and 20 assists in all competitions for PSG. However, his relationship with the team’s supporters has soured, with the Argentine captain facing criticism as the French side fell short in their pursuit of Champions League glory once again.

Having joined PSG in 2021 after leaving Barcelona, the 35-year-old Messi, who recently led Argentina to victory in the World Cup in Qatar and holds a record seven Ballon d’Or awards, has been the subject of transfer rumors. Speculations have linked him to a potential move to Saudi Arabia, while discussions of a return to the Nou Camp have gained traction in Spain in recent weeks.

In the past month, French media reported that Messi faced a two-week suspension after an unauthorized trip to Saudi Arabia instead of training with his team following their 3-1 league defeat at home to Lorient.

Messi’s future at PSG has been a topic of much speculation, including reports of a formal offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal for the upcoming season. Additionally, there have been media links suggesting a return to his childhood club Barcelona, with Inter Miami from Major League Soccer in the United States also mentioned as a potential destination.
