In an important step toward modernizing customs operations in Pakistan, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has partnered with Pakistan Single Window (PSW) to digitalize customs clearance processes.
The agreement, signed earlier this week, officially designates PSW as FBR’s technology partner for operating, maintaining, improving, and transforming its Web-Based One Customs (WeBOC) system.
This collaboration marks a significant milestone in Pakistan’s journey to modernize trade operations and enhance efficiency at its borders. The integration of advanced technology into customs processes aims to make cross-border trade faster, simpler, and more transparent for businesses and government agencies alike.
PSW has been revolutionizing Pakistan’s trade ecosystem through its single-window platform by digitalizing processes and consolidating information from 15 government agencies. This integration allows seamless interaction between stakeholders and the PSW system, saving time and reducing paperwork. Since 2022, PSW has been maintaining and improving the WeBOC system and has already contributed to several significant reforms, including the introduction of a faceless customs assessment system in Karachi, aligning with the Prime Minister’s vision of improving governance.
Under its new role as FBR’s technology partner, PSW will be tasked with upgrading WeBOC to meet international standards and align it with the PSW framework. The goal is to transform WeBOC into a next-generation Customs Clearance System capable of utilizing advanced technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML). These upgrades will minimize human involvement, reduce delays, and improve transparency in customs operations.
This initiative will not only streamline customs processes but also boost Pakistan’s efforts to enhance its revenue collection systems. By reducing official discretion and leveraging AI-powered tools, the upgraded system will make trade processes more predictable and efficient.
PSW’s contributions to Pakistan’s trade environment go beyond technical upgrades. The organization is playing a vital role in supporting the government’s vision of promoting digital transformation and facilitating trade. With this partnership, both FBR and PSW aim to create a more modern, efficient, and transparent customs system that will benefit businesses, improve compliance, and support economic growth.
This agreement reflects Pakistan’s commitment to adopting global best practices in trade and customs management.
